High PFC AC-DC System For LED With Observer Based Controller

In this paper, a two-stage high PFC LED driver circuit is introduced where the front end is driven by a modified single-phase Totem-pole bridgeless rectifier, which is the next-generation preferred solution for high PFC rectifier with lower conduction losses, higher power density, lower noise, and minimal input current THD. The second stage is impelled by an interleaved boost converter to attain a high input power factor and a regulated output with ripple and input current THD within prescribed standards for class C load. A state feedback gain matrix is introduced to place the desired poles under continuous-time domain using the pole placement method and finally, the induction of observer gain matrix for the second stage interleaved boost DC-DC converter is obtained to design stability. Simulation of the proposed two-stage AC-DC system for 230Volts, 50Hz AC input is done on MATLAB/SIMULINK platform for both continuous time domain and comparative analysis between proposed topology with and without a controller is being made on a common basis. The result showed a higher input power factor and input current THD within IEC61000-3-2 for class C loads.
