An Assistant Decision-Making Method for Power Grid Contingency Management Based on Case-Based Reasoning

In order to assist power grid dispatchers with dispatching strategies to manage contingencies in the power grid, an assistant decision-making method is proposed based on case-based reasoning (CBR). This method helps to achieve an accurate and fast emergency dispatching decision. First, based on the introduction of CBR, the difficulties of applying CBR to power grid contingency management is detailed. Discussions on how to deal with the difficulties are followed. Then, an assistant decision-making method for power grid contingency management is proposed. Algorithms and procedures of key CBR techniques, i.e., case construction, case retrieval, and case revision, are proposed. Finally, a prototype system is constructed for Guangdong Power Grid. Real contingencies demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, which provides dispatchers with practical and accurate dispatching suggestions to manage contingencies in the power system.
