Modeling and experimental verification of Biograph TruePoint PET/CT using MCNP5

The present investigation was primarily aimed at verifying a high-powered medical imaging platform - a Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNP) code of positron emission tomography (PET) camera for a higher definition on Siemens Biograph True-Point PET/CT scanner. Comparisons were made on experimental and simulated physical characteristics, including energy and spatial resolutions. The energy resolution of 511 keV positron was measured by calculating the extent of a function expressed as full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the spectrum. A Gaussian-fitted curve, was used to measure the spatial resolution from a profile of a point source aligned along an x -axis. At the conclusion of the study, results showed that correlation between experimental and simulation studies yielded satisfactory agreement, designating validity of the simulation procedures. The error level was approximately 3%, which was sufficiently small for further Monte Carlo simulation-based studies.
