Using SDN to Construct Network Slicing Like Platform for 5G Service

The 5G network is designed to meet the needs of more flexible and diversified services such as Extreme Mobile broadband (eMBB), Massive Machine-Type Communication (mMTC), and Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC). The spectrum below 6GHz is insufficient to be used by the upcoming 5G services; therefore, researchers are looking to higher frequency bands, such as 6-10GHz, or even higher 20-60GHz, which belongs to extremely high frequency. The 5G transmission system is designed to comply with the concept of frontend and backend softwarization. 3GPP proposed a software-oriented network slicing technology to meet the requirements of various service scenarios more flexibly. This study used the mmWave of 20-30GHz/30-40GHz as the experimental frequency band and used the waveform simulator, SystemVue, to generate CP-OFDM and DFT-s-OFDM waveforms. We built a flexible platform using Software-Defined Network (SDN) from end-user to the core network by integrating waveforms, mmWave, and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) to realize the versatile design of architecture and resource allocation of the 5G core network.
