Angle-of-Arrival-based Outdoor Localization for Spectrum Sharing at 25 GHz Band

This paper evaluated two angle-of-arrival (AoA)-based localization methods, pseudo-linear estimator (PLE) and maximum-likelihood estimator (MLE), at 25 GHz band in an outdoor environment. The transmitter (Tx) was the commercial small power data communication system. The receiver (Rx) was the fan-beam array antenna mounted on the stepping motor. The experiment was conducted in the Tokyo Institute of Technology where the location estimation was done by searching the Rx angle which maximizes the received power. The results showed that both methods had good accuracy if only the line-of-sight (LOS) points were used, and became worsen for non-LOS (NLOS) points, especially for PLE.
