Statistical Methods in Ocean Prediction

Statistical analysis methods have always played an important role in oceanic and meteorological research. Due to the lack of observation methods, insufficient data samples, and the statistical prediction performance was not satisfactory in the early years. With the development of satellite observation, computing capabilities, and artificial intelligence algorithms, statistical prediction technology has ushered in a new period of development. Since the 20th century, many new methods have emerged, providing new ideas for ocean prediction. This paper reviews the development for statistical methods in ocean prediction, summarizes the representative prediction methods, and casting the prospects in the development of ocean statistical prediction.
