Selective Harmonic Elimination of a New UXE-Type Inverter based on Ant-Colony Optimization

This work presents a new 13-level UXE inverter topology with its modulation based on selective harmonic elimination (SHE). UXE is a 13-level asymmetrical inverter that can produce an output voltage that is 1.5 times the main DC source. It requires three voltage sources to attain these levels, out of which two sources can be capacitors. It employs 8 IGBTs with antiparallel diodes, 4 IGBTs without antiparallel diodes and thus becomes one of the competitive 13-level topology. For its modulation the switches are modulated according to the angle obtained to implement the SHE. The angles of the switching are determined by employing Ant-Colony Optimization. The efficacy of the modulation of the new inverter topology is proved by simulation and hardware in the loop emulation of the inverter in the Typhoon-HIL environment.
