A Harmonic-Model based Resemblance between PI-SQIM, DI-OWIM, and DI-WRIM drives

High power Induction Machine (IM) drives are generally equipped with dual Voltage Source Inverters (VSIs), based on the ability of power conversion. Some of the widely known topologies are PI-SQIM, DI-OWIM, and DI-WRIM drives. In these IM drives, either two VSIs are employed on the stator (PI-SQIM and DI-OWIM) or one VSI each on the stator and rotor sides (DI-WRIM) which introduces harmonics into the IM drive. In this paper, the resemblances between the PI-SQIM, DI-OWIM, and DI-WRIM drives, in terms of the harmonic model of each drive, are discussed. The harmonic models of each drive are analyzed with the notion of direct and quadrature axis flux ripples that are introduced by each VSI. Analytical and simulation results are also presented to support the discussions on the resemblances between each drive system.
