An Initialization Method for the EMT Simulation of Three-Phase Unbalanced Distribution System

With the integration of a large number of distributed generators (DGs), energy storage devices and microgrids, electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation and analysis of complex dynamics processes for distribution system is increasingly necessary. However, the initialization process of EMT simulation for large-scale distribution system with DGs is time-consuming and difficult. To improve the efficiency of EMT simulation, an initialization schema for the EMT simulation of three-phase unbalanced distribution system with DGs is proposed in this paper. First, the three-phase power injection method is applied to calculate the power flow results. Then, the historical current and voltage values are directly calculated through the power flow results. Finally, an initialization schema of EMT simulation based on the three-phase power flow results is proposed. The improved IEEE-37 bus system is established in the CloudPSS platform to test the method. Test results verified the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method.
