State-of-the-Art: Wireless charging technologies and mass transit potential

The technology for electric mass transit in the areas of energy saving, high speed, improved safety and power transfer has been evolving rapidly in recent years. Catenary-free rail systems now incorporate a new method of design in order to reduce the civil engineering cost and increase speed of project implementation. Buses and coaches are also actively seeking solutions to wireless energy transfer. Non-technologist decision makers are aware of the various types of batteries but do not know which one is better than the other. Generally, they know that battery-powered mass transit is the future, but technology is moving so fast that they cannot keep up. This paper addresses this concern. Recyclability is also a growing concern. The electrical power sources for future transportation consist of separate energy storages in an auxiliary power system. The state-of-the-art wire- free solution is described in this paper.
