Ultra-Wideband Harmonic Suppression of Microstrip Antennas Using Compact Defected Ground Structure

A single-layer microstrip-fed patch antenna with ultra-wideband harmonic suppression is demonstrated. A compact and novel defected ground structure (DGS) and is introduced. The filtering characteristics of the microstrip patch antenna have been improved. A microstrip antenna with the working frequency 3.13 GHz (f

) is designed and manufactured. The proposed antenna has an ultra-wide harmonic suppression bandwidth range from 2f

, which is better than the earlier design (2f

). Moreover, the novel DGS decreased the area defected on ground plane by 31.7% compared to the earlier design.
