Thermal analysis of squirrel cage Induction Motor

Induction motor drive systems (IMDS) find widespread applications in the industrial sector. Because of its robust structure, easy design and reliability make them first choice for contaminated environments and heavy-duty cycles. These hostile service conditions make the IMDS vulnerable to a wide variety of faults. Proper fault analysis and condition monitoring method of the motor is essential for almost all electrical industries to protect the industry from the unscheduled shutdown and high maintenance cost. In almost all fault conditions, the temperature of the machine parts is suddenly increased so a thermal analysis of each and every part of the machine is an effective method for condition monitoring. This paper proposes the thermal analysis of IM for monitor the temperature of each and every part of the machine under the healthy condition which is used as a reference for the fault prognosis of an induction motor in the electrical industry. ANSYS Maxwell software is used for the virtual development and its electrical performance analysis and the thermal analysis is done with the help of the Finite Element Method in ANSYS Mechanical platform.
