Hemispheric Lateralization Analysis in Dyslexic and Normal Children using Rest-EEG

Developmental dyslexia is termed as neurodevelopmental disorder often refers to deficiency in reading ability regardless of average intelligence. The present work investigated the 16 channel resting EEG data (eyes closed condition) in dyslexic children and control children (normal without disorder). Lateralization index score was computed at all symmetrical electrode locations using the relative wavelet energies for all EEG frequency bands. Results revealed significant delta/theta lateralization (p<; 0.05) in left hemisphere (mainly at F7) and significant decreased activity (p<; 0.05) of alpha/beta band in left parietal and frontal regions for dyslexic children. In conclusion, this study state that dyslexic children had abnormal pattern in delta and theta activity at frontal regions during rest condition suggesting developmental immaturity.
