A Wideband CP Resonant Cavity Antenna with a Self-Complimentary Partially Reflective Surface

This paper presents wideband gain enhancement of a circularly-polarized (CP) resonant cavity antenna (RCA) by using a broadband single-layer partially reflective surface (PRS). The significant effect of self-complimentary PRS structure on the antenna bandwidth is demonstrated. The antenna is fabricated and measured and the results show a reasonable agreement between the simulation and measurement. The results show that an AR and impedance bandwidths of 20.3% and 33.6% are obtained, respectively. The antenna gain is more than 10.5 dBic over the 3-dB gain bandwidth from 5.4 to 7.2 GHz, with a peak gain of 13.5 dBic.
