Study of Coils Impact For a Boost Converter Used in the Automotive Industry

The paper describes an analyse of different coil types and their behaviour in the boost convertor functionality during the several power output test. The presented study was used as a reference point for the integrated circuit (IC), ISL “78227”, circuit that has been used in the series production for automotive industry projects, especially as a boost converter driver. The purpose of the test was to determine if the integrated circuit is capable to drive and synchronize in between the phases for fuel injectors supply applications. The DC-DC boost converter was designed to rise up the voltage from 9V up to 50V and 55V, for different load conditions. During the test, a wide range of input voltages were taken into consideration, from 9V to 32V as case studies, and a wide range of power outputs. The work contains also a study of the synchronous functionality and phase balance in between two phases. However, the text of this paper is a continuation of the already published paper “Simulation of a Boost Converter for the Automotive Industry”.
