A Generalized Model for Single-Switch Stacked Step-Down Converters

The paper focuses on the generalization of two stage stacked step-down converter previously published. Thus, an n stage topology is obtained. The study insists on the dc conversion ratio and uses mathematical tools for studying the main properties. It is proved that for step-down ratios close to the unity a reasonable duty cycle can be used, compared to a classical buck, where high unobtainable duty cycles are required. The main dc inductor currents and capacitive voltages are calculated in order to facilitate converter design. Results are supported by simulation and experiment.
