Comparison of Temperature Rise in DC Electrolytic Capacitor for Three-Phase Voltage-Fed Inverter

Electrolytic capacitors have a large capacitance and are used in many circuits to suppress voltage fluctuations. However, the life of an electrolytic capacitor decreases as the operating temperature increases. So, to use electrolytic capacitors for a long period of time, they need to operate with minimal temperature rise. It is also reported that the temperature rise differs depending on the waveform and frequency of the current flowing into the electrolytic capacitor. In this context, we study the relationship between the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) scheme and the temperature rise of the electrolytic capacitor. In this paper, the frequency analysis, comparison of current waveforms and temperature measurements of the current in the electrolytic capacitor are performed for two different PWM schemes, respectively.
