The application of vibration synthesis on electric machines for skewed designs

In this paper, the vibration behavior of skewed electric machines is studied by extending the vibration synthesis technique to skewed designs. The technique is applied to an automotive traction motor and compared with traditional Finite Element (FE) method in terms of accuracy and computational efforts. The study particularly shows the necessity to smartly truncate the force shapes in order to reach higher accuracy, but also pinpoints a factor 20 in computational time savings. Additionally, it highlights the capability of the method to extract troubleshooting features, useful for design optimization of skewed designs.
