Characteristics Analysis of Large Induction Motors Considering Core Ends and Duct Spaces by Using 3D Finite Element Method

This article describes characteristics analysis of line-starting large induction motors by 3D nonlinear time-stepping finite element method (FEM), which takes the effects of core ends and duct spaces into account. This analysis is carried out by a parallel computation. The results of the analysis are compared with those of experiments and 2D FEM. It is clarified that the 3D FEM is indispensable to obtain accurate results, in particular, peak torque and starting torque.
