Dispatch of Integrated Energy Systems Considering Thermal Dynamics of Thermal Energy Storage

The integrated energy systems (IESs) have obtained lots of attention from academia and industry. In the operation of IESs, the thermal energy storage (TES) is believed to have great prospects for its lower investment cost but higher energy storage capacity, but the thermal dynamics of the interior storage medium is often ignored in the operation of IESs. This paper proposes a thermal dynamic model for the mass transfer-based TES, which gives full descriptions for the states of the storage medium. The model for the district heating network with an independent water-based TES is then formulated. Afterwards, we propose a mixed-integer nonlinear optimal dispatch model for the IESs, and a linearization method is introduced to convert the model into a mixed-integer linear programming problem. Case studies demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
