CMOS Transformer Design for X-band Power Amplifier Applications

This paper presents transformer models to facilitate matching network design for power amplifiers (PAs). Both T-model based and magnetically coupled resonator (MCR) based transformer matching network design techniques are introduced for X-band PA applications. Using these two techniques, transformers for input/output balun and inter-stage matching are implemented using a standard CMOS technology. A fully integrated X-band PA is designed to verify the proposed design techniuues.
