A Global MPPT Optimization Algorithm for Commercial Aerospace

The power system of the new commercial satellite adopts maximum power point tracking (MPPT) unregulated bus architecture to improve solar energy utilization. To further improve the tracking power of MPPT control technique, a dynamic small-signal model of the voltage-type load Superbuck converter with CCM mode is established by using the state-space averaging approach. Meanwhile, the mathematical model of the parallel solar array is simplified, and a fast and stable global MPPT optimization algorithm without adding any additional hardware circuit is proposed according to the proportion between the peak point value of parallel solar array and the open circuit voltage and the short circuit current of solar unit. The local searching is used instead of global searching during the closed-loop voltage control. When it is applied to the power module of unregulated bus, it can successfully realize the global MPPT. An experimental platform is built upon a hundred-watt superbuck converter to verify the effectiveness and quickness of the global MPPT optimization algorithm.
