Selection of Filter Methods in the Analysis and Measured of Geometry and Surface Roughness

Surface metrology is designed not only to measure the size, shape, location and roughness and answer the question of whether the part is suitable, but also to control the production process and optimize the operation of the parts. Coordinate Measuring Machines have wide capabilities and sufficient performance to measure most engineering products. A precision Coordinate Measuring Machine based on the Stuart platform also allows measuring roughness. Measurements of size, form, waviness and roughness impose various requirements on the choice of filtration methods. Obviously, there is no single method suitable for all measurement tasks. A review of the filters, that have received the greatest application in other areas of technology, has made it possible to determine their application strategy for coordinate measurements. Therefore, a combination of several filtration methods has been proposed for the sequential solution of the following problems: identification individual shape errors, waviness and roughness, eliminating gross errors from measuring, revealing surface imperfections, minimizing random errors, revealing harmonic systematic errors. The proposed filtration technique is demonstrated by the example of measuring a plane after grinding.
