Application of an Optimal ILC Algorithm for Flow Rate Tracking of a Ventilator System

This paper considers the application of an optimal Iterative Learning Control (ILC) to a mechanical ventilator for controlling the flow rate of a ventilator during the inspiration phase. Mechanical ventilator is a medical device that produces the required quantity of air and supplemental oxygen needed for the patient, suffering from acute respiratory insufficiency. Respiration is a repeated process so ILC can be applied to control flow rate of the machine. Since medical devices demand high performance so a robust PID controller is proposed in feedback, which will help in performance improvement as well as increase tolerance to some amount of parameters variation of the system. The simulation results are obtained in MATLAB-2017.
