Vector Control of PMSM Drive with Single Current Sensor

This paper presents a current-estimation technique by a single current sensor for vector-controlled Permanent Magnet Synchronous-Motor (PMSM) drive. This estimates the two-phase currents for a three-phase machine in the stationary reference frame. To complete the vector-controlled operation of the PMSM drive; the estimated two-phase stationary reference frame currents are transformed into a rotor reference frame and closed in the current loop. The estimation algorithm requires single-phase current sensor information and shaft speed/rotor position information. This technique is completely independent of machine parameters and inverter switching states. The methodology is validated in MATLAB/Simulink and Real-Time Ultra low-latency (ULL) Emulator Typhoon Hardware in Loop (HIL)-402 platform.
