Slotted-Core Microstructure Fiber for Chemical Sensing in Terahertz Regime

A Zeonex based slotted core microstructure fiber is presented and numerically analyzed in this article for different chemical sensing using terahertz signal. The propagation characteristics of the reported chemical sensor is investigated by using Comsol Multiphysics software with perfectly matched layer boundary condition. The simulation outcomes confirm that this sensor offers very high relative sensitivity of 89.5%, 88.86% and 88.7% at 1.8 THz for benzene, ethanol and water respectively. Along with excellent sensitivity the offered photonic crystal fiber based chemical detector shows negligible absorption loss of 0.02 cm
^-1
and extremely low confinement loss in the order of 10
^-9
dB/m at same operating frequency and geometric parameters. This chemical sensor is very easy to realize and can be effectively employed in various promising spectroscopic applications.
