Study on the Tribological Behavior of Mos_2-Al_2O_3 Hybrid Nanofluids as Lubricants

MoS_2-Al_2O_3 nanofluids were prepared as lubricants and the tribological behavior was investigated using a four-ball tribometer. Results showed that compared to the base fluid without nanoparticles, the PB value has increased significantly at optimum mass concentration (3 wt.%), and a reduction of approximately 55.6% and 32.9% respectively for COF and WSD was achieved. Through analysis of worn surface, Mo, S and Al elements were found on worn surface which indicates the formation of tribo-film. Additionally, the lubrication action of nanofluids can be attributed to polishing effect, mending effect, rolling effect and inter-layer sliding effect of nanoparticles.
