The Application of Terahertz Surface Polaritons in Power Electronic Semiconductor Devices

As a coupled mode quantum excited by electromagnetic waves and polarons bound to the surface or interface, surface polariton has the potential to overcome diffraction limit. Terahertz Band was once a blank area of human understanding. However, it has been developed rapidly in the past thirty years. Such development is of great strategic significance. Terahertz surface polaritons with the ability to overcome the diffraction limit are also important physical basis for miniaturization and integration of terahertz devices. This research is based on reviewing the previous studies. The generation and characteristics of terahertz surface polaritons are analyzed in this paper. Their applications in the field of power electronic semiconductor devices are also studied. The result shows that the terahertz surface polaritons are mainly applied in extrinsic semiconductor, two-dimensional electron gas, topological insulator and other power electronic semiconductor devices. In addition, the application in artificial hyperstructure material is predicted to be positive.
