Research on Optimal Placement and Sizing of TCPST

A new generation of flexible AC transmission devices such as TCPST can effectively improve the transmission capacity of transmission lines. However, TCPST has been in the theoretical research stage, so there is an urgent need for a TCPST site selection and capacity setting method that can guide the actual engineering. This paper considers the blocking information of the line, first introduces the line active power flow performance index, which compares the actual power flow with the power flow stability limit; then, based on this index, the voltage siting factor and phase angle siting factor of the TCPST pre-installed branch are determined, comprehensive comparison of the two factors, the branch with the largest absolute value is the best installation location for TCPST; finally, according to the best site selection, the optimal capacity of the installation is calculated after determining the voltage amplitude injected by TCPST. Tests based on the equivalent systems of IEEE14, and IEEE118 node networks show that the method in this paper is feasible and practical.
