Comparison Study of Control Methods for Resonant Switched-Capacitor Converters

A new control method for step-down RSCCs is proposed to achieve full-range regulation for all loads. The proposed regulation method is applicable to RSCCs with different inductor locations. In addition to full-range voltage regulation, the operation principle and performance of two basic RSCCs are compared. The indirect RSCC features the advantage of ZVS turn-on for switches, even switch voltage stress and even diode voltage stress, while the direct RSCC provides ZCS turn-on for switches. Experimental results are presented to support the proposed full-range regulation method.
