An SFCL Based Solution for Enhancing FRT Capability of DFIG Wind Turbine

In the case of voltage dip at the terminals of Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG), this generator may get disconnected from the network to avoid damages caused by large currents on its power electronic converters. Hence, in order to prevent from such events, Fault Ride Through (FRT) capability of wind parks is addressed to be improved in this paper. A new objective function is proposed to determine optimal value of a Superconducting Fault Current Limiter (SFCL) in order to improve the voltage at terminals of DFIG during voltage sag condition. The proposed method is tested in MATLAB/Simulink and the simulation result has confirmed its superior effect to enhance the FRT capability of DFIG based wind parks.
