IoT-based Smart Medicine Kit

Unintended medical errors are a big threat to patient safety. Patient management by nurses in hospitals is not only intricate but can also become unsafe. Human error by the nurse might result in wrong medication which could be fatal. In their place of residence, patients, especially elderly people who are under lifelong medications find it difficult in identifying the right medicine to be taken at prescribed time schedules. In this paper, we propose an IoT based programmable Smart Medicine Kit as a solution to the above problems. It guides nurses/patients to administer/take the correct medicine at correct time schedules through a unique alarm system which includes mobile notifications, buzzers, LED indications on the segments of the kit. The segments which contain the right tablets are unlocked at the prescribed time to avoid intake of the wrong medicines. A multilevel notification system ensures that the caretaker is alarmed when his/her patient fails to take the medicine on time. This kit can be extensively used in hospitals as well as by patients in their place of residence.
