Breaking the Inversion Symmetry via Hot-Electron Transport

We demonstrate the ultrafast conversion of statically passive dielectrics (e.g., amorphous TiO
₂
) to transient second-order nonlinear media upon the sub-picosecond transfer of hot electrons, enabling active control of second-order optical processes.
