Early Period of Radio Navigation and Blind Landing System Development in the Soviet Civil Aviation

The article covers the period of the 1930s - 1950s and is devoted to the origin and development of automated navigation and landing systems for civilian aircraft. The reasons for the emergence of such systems, the principle of their operation, the results of tests and the ways of improvement are traced. The work is based on the documents of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation from the Russian State Archives of Economics.
