Research of S3MPR Engineering Application on Space Power Sources

This paper presents a Sequential Switching Shunt Maximum Power Regulator (S
³
MPR). The S
³
MPR topology is evolved from the traditional Sequential Switching Shunt Regulator (S
³
R), in which the fixed bus voltage reference used by the main error amplifier (MEA) is replaced by the reference of Maximum Power Point (MPP) voltage. Instead, this circuit is applied to the topology of the unregulated bus, but has the dynamic characteristics of a fully-regulated bus and has the ability to track the MPP of the solar array (SA). Considering the particularity of spacecraft application environment, this paper studies the best method for implementing S
³
MPR with pure analog circuits. Optimized design from the aspects of algorithm circuit and control methods to achieve maximum power output of solar arrays. The choice of implementation, scheme design, and experiments and results analysis are elaborated in this paper. For validating the proposal, this paper has completed the 5 kW prototype with 10 solar-array sections, and has carried out a number of tests. All the test results show the prototype has good performance and meets the requirements of high voltage and high-power deep space exploration application platform.
