Fuzzy-PI Controller for Photovoltaic Water Pumping Systems

The aim of this work is to achieve a highly-efficient of a solar photovoltaic (PV) based water pumping system using induction motor. An intelligent artificial speed control approach of induction motor is introduced to improve the efficiency of the proposed PV system. The proposed technique consists of introducing a fuzzy-PI controller for speed regulation and torque reference generation. Perturb and Observe (P&O) algorithm is utilized in order to extract the maximum power from the PV panel. The performances of PV system using the suggested fuzzy logic controller (FLC) are compared to those obtained from the conventional proportional-integral (PI) using Matlab/Simulink software. The simulation results showed that the proposed PV water pumping system ensure the best dynamic performances.
