Nonlinear Conduction Characteristics and Application of SiO2@SiC/Epoxy Nanocomposite

Core-shell structure method is used to improve the nonlinear conduction characteristic of polymer composites. The typical nonlinear conduction particles (SiC) are coated with SiO
2
by hydrolysis and also surface modified by silane coupling agent as a contrast. The SiO
2
@SiC/epoxy nano-composites and the surface modified SiC/epoxy ones are prepared, respectively. SEM and DC conduction measurement are carried out. In addition, the electric field distributions in the prepared materials are obtained by simulation method. Experimental results show that the SiO
2
@SiC/epoxy nano-composite have a stronger nonlinear conduction characteristic than pure epoxy and 3 wt% surface modified SiC/epoxy nano-composites. Simulation results suggest that the SiO
2
@SiC/epoxy nano-composite is beneficial to lower the maximum electric field and is potential helpful to dissipate the accumulated charges.
