RGB based EEG Controlled Virtual Keyboard for Physically Challenged People

An increased ratio is found in several diseases as the world's population is increasing. Paralysis is one of them which is caused by the neuromuscular disorder of human body such as cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury or stroke etc. Brian Computer Interface (BCI) is a computer-based system which acquires bioelectrical signals of brain, analyzes and translates them into commands that accomplish the user's intention. In this research, a BCI base virtual keyboard is developed according to "QWERTY" standards which has 36 keys in total (26 English alphabets A-Z, 7 special characters and 3 action keys), it can be controlled using bioelectrical waves of human brain. The research is divided into two modules (1) Software module and (2) Hardware module. Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals are analyzed for red, green and blue (RGB) colors based on asynchronous mechanism. The results are concluded after an experiment performed in two sessions on same subjects (University Students). Experiment results shows 89.7% average accuracy, 6.4 characters per minute (CPM) with 2.3 minutes average spelling completion time.
