IPMS for Load Sharing, Monitoring and Diagnosis of Electrical Loads in AFVs

The need to increase operational range and meet high power demands during various missions has significantly escalated the requirement of efficient power management strategies in Armored Fighting Vehicles (AFVs). In this article, the implementation of an Intelligent Power Management System (IPMS) is demonstrated that is capable of smartly managing the loads based on the priorities and operating mode of the vehicle. The proposed IMPS unit also accounts for the state of function of the battery and help achieve prolonged battery life. With an increase in usage of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) to increase efficiency and support extensive power demand in battlefield, the proposed IPMS module will be vital for various military products. As a logical extension, a framework based on Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations is proposed to diagnose incipient faults in DC motors. FEA simulations assist in performing detailed study of incipient faults and its progression over time, which is difficult in limited time experiments. Finally, the features extracted from current data are used to diagnose incipient faults and access the health status of DC motors.
