Hardware-In-Loop Implementation of Single DC Source PV Fed Grid Tied Multilevel Converter

This paper proposes a three-phase five-level multilevel converter configuration with a single DC source and transformers for flexible grid-tied photovoltaic (PV) applications. The decoupled controller is modeled for independent control of active and reactive components of currents. The stability analysis is carried out for appropriate control parameters investigation using Bode plot. The proposed system has benefits over existing topologies in terms of simple control, feasible grid integration, reduced cost and number of DC sources. The system performance is simulated on MATLAB/Simulink for steady-state and dynamic conditions. Moreover, investigations are carried out using OPAL-RT hardware-in-loop (HIL) in order to validate simulated results under the IEEE-519 and IEC 61727 standards.
