Enhancing thermoacoustic signal in scattering media by controlling microwave propagation

In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate that thermoacoustic signal in a scattering medium can be improved by up to 10-fold by placing a piece of copper sheet in the incident microwave field near the scattering medium. We showcase the improvement in imaging contrast due to such controlling of microwave using various tissue-mimicking phantom experiments.
