An Accelerated Positron Emission Tomography Simulator

A new GPU Accelerated Simulator for Emission Positron Tomography (AccSEPT) is presented, achieving 2 × 10
⁸
coincidence events per second. It is well suited for applications demanding a large number of simulated events such as the Reconstructed Image from Simulations Ensemble (RISE) or deep neural networks. We first present our methodology for the creation of the real coincidences dataset and finally compare the prompt coincidences time difference spectrum and spatial correlations with the ones acquired from the highly sophisticated Geant4 Application for Emission Tomography (GATE) software package.
