Photon Counting with Synchronous Background Subtraction for Time Resolved Optically Stimulated Luminescence Readout

The experimental determination of light detection threshold by single photon counting with synchronous background subtraction has been carried out for studies on time resolved optically stimulated luminescence readout. The lowering of light detection threshold as compared with conventional photon counting has been determined for several values of dwell time ranging from 0.1 to 16 seconds, what is relevant to planned luminescence experiments. The steady rise in background reduction factor from 3.7 to 52 with increase in dwell time has been obtained.
