Research on Improved Ka-band Cavity Isolation by Lid of Nails

A method to improve Ka-band cavity isolation by using electromagnetic band gap (EBG), which is constructed by a period of metal nails, is presented in this paper. A cavity for assembling a Ka-band power amplifier with high cavity isolation is designed, fabricated, assembled and measured. By comparing the use and non-use of metal pins, it is proved that the metal pin can effectively suppress the cavity resonance and improve the isolation.
