Techno-Economic Analysis of Rooftop Solar PV System by Variation in PV Module Capacity

The target set by India for installing solar photovoltaic power plants is 100 GW. Out of this, 40 GW is to be complimented by rooftop solar photovoltaic power plants. These targets are to be achieved by year 2022. But, till 31st May 2019, only 4.91% of the target set for rooftop solar photovoltaic is achieved. Despite the growth in renewable sector, achieving that target is still a challenge. This paper discusses the technical and economical analysis of a rooftop solar PV plant of 300 kW installed at Rajasthan Technical University, Kota, India. The study reveals the importance of simulating a solar PV power plant by using software before installation. HOMER software is used for the simulation of power plant. It is found that if high power rating modules are used instead of the presently installed modules, 61,608 kWh/year of additional energy can be generated. Levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) of the system (including energy imported from the grid supply) comes out to be €6.39/kWh, as renewable fraction is only 25.5% of the total load demand.
