Optimal Scheduling of Micro-sources in Multi-Microgrids for Reliability Improvement

Up-surging power demand, immense T&D losses in power system, appalling power quality and erratic power supply at far-flung locations has prompted the researchers for alternatives ways to tackle these issues. In addition, a fault in a certain region of a distribution system can cause overloading or isolation in other areas and leads to power disruption. In light of these aspects, Microgrids (MGs) with Distributed generation (DG) has found to be one of the feasible solutions to tackle the above issues. Accordingly, this paper has addressed the sectionalization of islanded distribution system with numerous self-adequate MGs. These MGs can operate in isolation or join with other microgrids. In this paper, minimization of operating cost of DGs and minimization of system losses are considered as objective functions. Energy Index of reliability (EIR) has been considered as a constraint while tackling the objective functions. Two scenarios are formulated, considering one objective at a time. Dispatchable DGs are taken into account for attaining the desired objectives. The viability of the proposed technique is tested on a modified 33 bus distribution system using Jaya algorithm and the results are validated by comparing with Genetic algorithm.
