A Design of Terahertz Wave Orthomode Transducer (OMT)

This paper reports on a terahertz wave orthomode transducer (OMT) based on simple waveguide structure in the 180~220GHz band. The OMT is terminated with a rectangular waveguide common port ( 1.092 mm ×1.092 mm) and two standard isolated rectangular waveguide ports (WR-4, 1.092 mm×0.546 mm). Simultaneous transmission of two orthogonally polarized waves is achieved by an ingenious polarization separation. During the working frequency band, the insertion loss is less than -0.08 dB, and the isolation of orthogonal polarized wave is better than -55dB. In addition, this paper also introduces the development of OMT and the bright future of terahertz wave OMT in modern communication technology.
