Research on Correlation Between Serum IGF-1, TNF-a and Atherosclerosis in Patients with Diabetes

Objective: To observe between serum levels of IGF-1, TNF-a and carotid atherosclerosis plaque in patients with diabetes. Methods: 233 patients were measured with their bilateral carotid intima media thickness(IMT) by ultrasound. According to the result of ultrasound examination, patients were divided into case group(n=120) and control group(n=113) serum IGF-1, TNF-a levels of patients were measured by Immunoradiometric assay. Result: IGF-1 levels were obvious lower in plaque group than group of the normal subjects and have a statistical meaning(P<; 0.01), IGF-1 levels were negative correlation with the degree of carotid atherosclerosis plaque(P<; 0.01). TNF-a levels were higher in case group than in control group and have a statistical meaning(P<; 0.01), IGF-1 levels were positive correlation with the degree of carotid atherosclerosis plaque(P<; 0.01). Conclusion: IGF-1 and TNF-a may be involved in the occurrence and development of macroangiopathy in atherosclerotic patients with diabetes, and has closely related to the degree of carotid atherosclerosis plaque.
