A comb-like dipole array with wide bandwith and scanning properties

In this paper, we present a comb-like connected dipole array with integrated Marchand balun, which contain strip-line, dipole and vertical metal strips. The vertical metal strips located at the edges of the element to connect the dipole and ground, also serve as ground for Marchand. In this way, we can avoid the appearance of any resonant common-mode in the working band. What's more, an even current distributions on the dipoles can be achieved, which will be enhanced to stabilize the performance of array at different scanning angle. the proposed approach provides 4.58:1 bandwidth with VSWR <; 2.2 throughout the entire scanning range of ±60° in E plane without any superstrate.
