Design and Simulation of Shunt Active Filter using Fuzzy Logic

Harmonics within the electrical system is one of the biggest issues in recent times due to drastic increase in the use of electronic devices like mobile phone chargers, laptops as well as computer peripherals. Electronic devices are the biggest source of harmonics and they cause the non-linearity in the system. Nevertheless, we cannot see the reduction in the use of these devices. On the contrary, the use of these devices will increase at rapid rate in the nearer future and due to which harmonics are also going to increase with it. Also, the power electronic devices like inverters and rectifiers which are the nonlinear loads causes the harmonics in the system. So, the solution for this problem is to use shunt active filter to lessen the harmonics. To implement the shunt active filter here we are using fuzzy controller which is easy to design as compared to previous generation controllers. Results represented in this paper will clearly show the importance of shunt active filter as well as the fuzzy logic controller.
